FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
This faculty was established in 1978 to create a strong engineering hub for educating and training young engineers in response to the industrial needs of our province, Khuzestan in the southwest of Iran. Since then the Faculty has been committed to produce knowledgeable and innovative leaders and entrepreneurs who are capable of taking advantage of the unique economic and industrial opportunities that our province presents.
Since the establishment of the Faculty we have conducted three types of educational activities to keep pace with the scientific and technological advancement of the world. In the first phase, we were focusing our activities on introducing and developing a variety of undergraduate courses to satisfy the growing demand of the industrial sector in the province for experts in different fields. Meanwhile, we began to invest on post graduate courses as the need grew for more sophisticated workforce in the industrial companies of the province. In the second phase, we devoted most of our educational activities to the development of basic and applied research activities such as supervising and advising graduate theses, producing academic articles published in national and international journals, conducting research projects for various organizations and companies, as well as cooperating in national and international conferences in various branches of the field of engineering.
With the rise in the number of local and international industries in our lucrative province, we are now focusing more on the development and promotion of demand-driven entrepreneurial research activities. Research and postgraduate programs are now oriented toward satisfying the thriving industrial and economic market of the province. Accordingly, our faculty has continuously been cooperating with local industries in terms of retraining their workforce, organizing workshops, holding conferences, and conducting research projects.
We are now planning to expand our educational and research relationships and cooperation with the universities in our neighboring countries particularly Iraq and Persian Gulf countries. For this purpose, we have been regularly updating the software and hardware capabilities of our faculty to facilitate our research activities. At present, all relevant technical workshops and laboratories of the departments are equipped with extensive facilities to give service both to our own students and off-campus industrial projects.
The Faculty of Engineering consists of six departments in the areas of civil, electrical, mechanical, materials, computer, and architecture hosting undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs in all the departments. More than 4000 students are now studying in these departments in BSc, MSc, and PhD programs.
