The Faculty of Art of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz started its work in 1998 with the name "Teacher Training University" in a building near its current one in north-east of Shushtar County. Shushtar County is located at 90 kilometers from Ahvaz, the central city of Khuzestan Province. With the change in the faculty's mission and its transformation to the Art Faculty in January of 2003, the first groups of art students started their education in the current building. At the moment, the faculty has two departments of graphics and painting at a B.A. level and one department of art studies at an M.A. level. It is also planning on moving forward toward improving its majors through establishing the required applied majors. Fully-equipped classes and workshops, a dedicated library, a 120-people amphitheater, cafeteria, dormitory and sporting welfare facilities, printmaking workshops and technical publications all are just some of the specialized facilities of the faculty. The Art Faculty of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz as the most important art faculty of south-west of the country and also Khuzestan Province, has been publishing its technical-scientific journal named "Peykare", which 12 issues of it have already been published, in the fields of specialized visual arts and is also planning on publishing this journal in English starting 2019. One of the goals of this journal is to be published based on the criteria of international technical journals. The Faculty of Art of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, built on a 60-hectare land, is developing based on the natural topography of the region. This faculty, in terms of its green spaces, is one of the most visually appealing faculties of all universities in Iran.
