DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING & GUIDANCE
1) Background
The department of Counseling and Guidance was established in 1975 at Jundishapur University and started offering courses at two levels of bachelor's (B.A) and master's (M.A) degrees from September 1976 until the beginning of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. From 1983 to 1999, educational and research activities were in progress, but only for B.A degree programs. Since 2000, in addition to B.A degrees, the department was also granted a Master course of Family Counseling, and a Ph.D. course of Counseling from the Ministry of Higher Education. Master of School Counseling and Master of Rehabilitation Counseling were also added to the course works of this department in 2018, and 2019, respectively. It should be noted that the Counseling Department was in fact a division of the Department of Education from 1975, when this department started working, to 1988. In 1988, the department educational programs were planned and scheduled independently. It is worthy of mention that, this department is also publishing a scientific research journal entitled Practical Consulting since 2011 which encourages innovative research within the area of consulting.
2) Department's teaching focus
The Counseling and Guidance department offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. programs. Graduates of the Counseling department have a broad knowledge of counseling theories and skills, allowing them to contribute creatively to future issues in research and society.
3) Broad Range of Degree Programs
The Department currently offers one bachelor's degree program in one branch, entitled Counseling, the curriculum of which includes 138 course credits. Regarding the bachelor's degree, focus of the curriculum is on preparing students to work as School consultants. Seven faculty members work in this department, and are also active in an undergraduate program, and some graduate programs including Family Counseling, and Rehabilitation Counseling, as well as Ph.D. programs of Counseling.
