A variety of specialties and potentials in the Department of History at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz has attracted the attention of many students who decide to enroll in the department's B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. programs. While the four orientations of the History of Ancient Iran, the History of Islam, the History of Islamic Iran, and the Studies of Persian Gulf are offered as M.A. programs, the History of Islamic Iran is the only orientation which is offered in the Ph.D. program. 

The educational focus of the department is on teaching subjects related to the History of Islamic (North Africa and Spain), the History of Ancient Iran, and the History of Islamic Iran.
The research interest of the department is in the local history of Khuzestan, the history of Persian Gulf, and the economic history of Iran and the world. Currently, the department has 2 professors, 2 associate professors and 5 assistant professors with 105 undergraduate students, 38 M.A. students and 11 Ph.D. candidates.
